During the 2020 and 2022 elections, MichiganDropBox.com became an invaluable tool for voters to locate their correct absentee ballot drop box. Now, thanks to the changes from voter-approved Proposal 22-2, Michigan voters have a constitutional right to absentee ballot drop boxes in every municipality, and at least nine days of early voting. However, that also means more voters will need access to accurate and up-to-date information on their drop box and early voting locations. <\/p>\n

Michigan’s democracy was put to the test in 2020. Voters Ed Fund quickly stepped up to the challenge to ensure that voters knew all of the options available to them to cast their vote in a safe, convenient, and secure way. Given COVID-19 and the increasing unpredictability with USPS mail delivery, Voters Ed Fund set out with a goal to encourage as many voters as possible to vote absentee and drop off their completed ballots at a local drop box. The challenge was getting accurate, up-to-date information to voters on where local drop boxes were located, as many jurisdictions were still installing them just weeks before the election. At the time, there was no reliable, easy-to-use tool that served that purpose.<\/p>\n

In an effort to make ballot drop boxes more accessible for voters from historically marginalized communities, Voters Ed Fund incorporated MichiganDropBox.com into our My City Votes 2022 campaign. From October 24th – November 8th, our Voters Ed Fund campaign promoted the website via a multi-channel digital ad program resulting in 2,610,197 impressions and 40,273 link clicks and sent 267,600 peer-to-peer text messages to historically marginalized voting blocs.<\/p>\n
